About this funder:

The Cigna Foundation is deeply committed to providing opportunities for individuals everywhere to achieve the best possible health. We pursue that goal through our World of Difference Grants. Our overall World of Difference focus is Health Equity, helping people overcome barriers to their health and well-being related to factors such as ethnicity, race, gender, age, geography, or economics. World of Difference Grants emphasize partnership: sharing the knowledge and expertise of Cigna's professionals with dedicated non-profit partners. We believe that together, we can make "A World of Difference" in both individual and community health.

To encourage Health Equity, we are currently seeking proposals from non-profit organizations engaged in eliminating Health Disparities and improving Community Health Navigation.

Community Health Navigation

These grants support projects that help individuals understand the particular Health Equity challenges affecting them, and assist them in finding services in their communities that address those challenges. Organizations seeking funding may do so in one of two ways, depending on their location.

Organizations located within the USA:

Individuals can’t achieve their best possible health if they don’t understand the health challenges they face. They can’t access community health resources if they don’t know they exist.

The solution to both dilemmas is Community Health Navigation—projects and programs aimed at connecting individuals and better health through the efforts of trusted neighbors and organizations.

In our experience, a well-designed Community Health Navigation program can be a powerful tool in bringing improved Health Equity to underserved populations.

Community Health Navigation can take many forms. Often it starts with faith-based organizations. In other cases, neighborhood clinics or emergency medical workers may play a role.

Existing World of Difference collaborations exemplifying these many approaches are: Community Solutions, New York Botanical Garden, Healthy Smiles Mobile Dental Foundation, and University of Maryland.

The Cigna Foundation is interested in learning more about innovative, USA-based Community Health Navigation projects such as these.
